Supermicro X9SCM-F Bios Password reset? (2024)

Hey guys,

I bought a X9SCM-F from eBay.
Seller is not really responding fast...

The board boots up and trys to boot pxe (nothing else)
When trying to enter the bios a password is required.

Cutting the powercord and removing the cmos battery for more than 60 minutes does not change anything.
Shorting the CMOS Reset jumper
a) with power cord and battery (system reboots)
b) with poser cord and no battery (system reboots)
c) without power cord but with cmos battery (still password required)
d) without power cord and without cmos battery (still password is required)

Any guesses?

It may be worth trying the proceedure in Appendix C of the manual
"To Recover the Main BIOS Block Using a USB-Attached
Device". No guarantee of success or bricking it though.

I am able to access the IPMI.
I am not aware of a possibility to wipe or reflash the BIOS via IPMI with this board.

I upgraded to the latest IPMI version available for this board (IPMI_9SCM R 3.38)

With my SM Avoton boards (running IPMI_A1SA/RM R 1.88 firmware) there is an option to update the Bios (but you need to contact SM first to get a serial for that)

This option is completely missing (as are other menu items) in the IPMI WebInterface of the 9SCM.

This Solution doesn't seem to work.
I am using a fat32 formates 32gb sub stick with the super.rom file on it.

Pressing crtl + home does nothing.

Is there perhaps a way to clear the bios / nvram via pxe boot?

Because it is trying to boot that way at least.
Problem: I have never done that before.

I have a xpenology box that could act as a xpe server

How long did you pull the battery for ?

Unplug, remove battery, short clear CMOS jumper and leave it over night including shorting the CMOS jumper.. They try the next morning.

I have done this many times and it "can" bring boards back alive, not sure about the PW thing tho.

I removed the cmos battery yesterday at 11pm and put it back in today at 3pm (but I didn't shorten the cmos jumper)
So does the battery need to be pulled shortening the cmos jumper?
Because I thought there would have to be the battery power to actually shorten something.
And the manual is also not saying anything about the battery...

The standard AMI passwords are all not working :-/

I don't think you need to take out the battery. But you have to disconnect the power cable.

Check the page 2-32 of the manual for details.

That is exactly how I proceeded... No cigar.

I have same motherboard and it works for me.

Have you tried powering down the system, pulling the cable out? Then press power button to drain leftover charge. Shorten the jumper for couple of seconds. Re-attach the power cable...

Yes I did that a couple of times, its not working...
So no chance with the PXE boot?

Was not able to get a 4gb stick in any store 20km around my home. All are 8gb+

So I will send the board back to the seller, because if I order one from Amazon the time to give the board back is over :-(
